Consult with client regarding load and stow of cargo and special circumstances

Inspect cargo prior to loading and discharge to report on current state of cargo and damages, if any

Consult with vessel and terminal personnel on proposed stowage and securing of cargo and/or terminal equipment utilized

Verify that appropriate lifting gear is utilized

Witness the loading and discharge operations and reporting on any damages

Inspect cargo after loading to verify proper use of lashing and securing
Flat-Rack Securing and Inspections

Inspect flat-racks to determine suitability to load to vessel

Measure cargo to determine in or out of gauge dimensions

Ensure the appropriate use of blocking and bracing is utilized for cargo securing

Ensure proper lashing materials are utilized to secure cargo to flat-rack
Container Loading and Securing
-
Ensure appropriate container is utilized for intended cargo
-
Verify the proper weight distribution and spacing is utilized
-
Ensure that securing of cargo is sufficient for ocean transit
-
Determine height measurements for open top containers
Discharge Survey

Determine the condition of cargo upon arrival at a discharge port , prior to Stevedore Operations
-
Attend during discharge operations in order to verify conditions during unloading of cargo on the vessel onto the pier / warehouse floor.

Following completion of discharge operations, conduct an outturn survey of all visible cargo while at rest on the pier / warehouse floor.

Identify and report specific type of cargo, method of unloading, observations of damages (if any), and provide photographs of entire process.
Damaged Cargo Survey

Conduct surveys at the request of clients in regard to report of damaged containerized or breakbulk cargoes
-
Gather background information as is possible (i.e.: exceptions at time of loading, stowage location, weather information, method of securing, etc.)

Inspect cargo and, if possible, inspect securing used to determine if securing is sufficient for mode of transportation
-
Report on nature and extent of damage
-
Make recommendations on efforts to mitigate loss
Fruit Surveys

Inspect external and internal quality
-
Determine net weight, pulp temperature, Brix Reading (sugar content)
-
Inspect state of pallets, boxes, container, and cooling system
-
Issue opinion of shelf life of cargo
-
Provide reading of container’s temperature recorder
